Paired is a good app, and for some couples it’s the right one (we say when below). But its free plan is small, both of you need the app, and there’s no web version we could find. Here are six Paired alternatives, what each gives you for free, and who each one suits.

Disclosure: we make CoupleMoment, so read this with that in mind. No app on this page paid to be here, and there are no affiliate links. We say where the others are stronger, and every fact links to its source.

Paired

What you get free in Paired (and what you don’t)

  • Free: one question a day to answer together, plus date tracking.
  • Premium: games and quizzes, multi-day journeys and the full library. Paired’s FAQ prices it at $79.99 a year per couple, with a 7-day free trial on the yearly plan. The App Store also lists other plans, including $14.99 a month.
  • Good to know: one Premium covers both of you, both of you need the app and an account, and we found no web app.

1

CoupleMoment: the best free option for playing together

CoupleMoment is built for doing something together tonight: 20 couple games (13 free, like Would You Rather, Hot Takes and Turn Up the Heat) and 16 free question decks with 400+ cards. Play on one phone, or send your partner a link and they join from their browser, no account and no download. Premium is optional at $9.99/month or $59.99/year, with no free trial, and one subscription covers both of you.

Where Paired is better: expert-written journeys and a much bigger, longer-running app.

2

Gottman Card Decks: fully free conversation cards

22 decks and 1,000+ cards, completely free with nothing to buy, on iPhone, iPad and Android. It’s cards you read together, not games.

3

Candle: daily games and streaks

One activity a day for free, plus streaks, widgets, Thumb Kisses and games like Who’s More Likely and Draw Duel. Premium is listed at $12.99/month or $39.99 to $49.99/year on the App Store. Its pages don’t say whether one subscription covers both of you.

4

Lovewick: date ideas and reminders

Most of Lovewick is free: 1,000+ questions, 750+ date ideas, reminders and shared lists. Lovewick Plus is $9.99/month or $29.99/year. It’s more of a planner than a game.

5

Between: a private space for two

A free messenger just for the two of you, with shared photos, a calendar and calls. Between Plus adds extras; the App Store lists $2.99/month and $24.99/year, and its description lists other prices. No question games.

6

Agapé: one daily question

The closest to Paired’s daily question: one question a day, and you see each other’s answers once you both reply. The daily question is free; some categories need a subscription (the App Store lists monthly, yearly and lifetime options).

Fair is fair

When Paired is still the better pick

  • You want expert-led content. Paired says its content is made with licensed relationship therapists, scientists and academics.
  • You like guided programs. Its multi-day journeys walk you through topics like money and love languages.
  • You trust the crowd. It has about 210K ratings on the US App Store, far more than any app here.

Method

How we checked

  • Same day, same stores. We checked each app on November 5, 2026 on the US App Store, Google Play and the app’s own website.
  • Only what the source says. Where a listing shows several prices without naming the plan, we wrote “varies”. Where an official page doesn’t say something outright, we say so.
  • We make CoupleMoment. No app paid to be here and there are no affiliate links. Spotted something out of date? Tell us on our contact page and we’ll fix it.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Is Paired free?

Partly. Paired’s free plan includes one question a day to answer together. Games, quizzes, journeys and the rest of the library are in Paired Premium, which its FAQ prices at $79.99 a year per couple with a 7-day free trial on the yearly plan.

Do both partners need to pay for Paired?

No. Paired’s FAQ says only one partner needs to subscribe and Premium is shared with both accounts. Both of you still need the app and an account. CoupleMoment works the same way on price (one Premium covers both of you once you’re paired), and your partner can join from a link without an account.

What is the best free alternative to Paired?

For playing together, CoupleMoment: every question deck and 13 couple games are free and it runs in any browser. For conversation cards only, Gottman Card Decks is completely free.

Is there a couples app that works on Android and iPhone together?

Yes. Paired, Candle, Between, Agapé and Lovewick all have iPhone and Android apps. CoupleMoment has an iPhone app and runs in any browser, so an Android partner plays at app.couplemoment.com without installing anything. It isn’t on Google Play yet.
